Sacred Mother Blessing Ceremony
Mother blessing ceremonies are taken from the original Blessingway, a sacred ritual of the Dine (Navajo) people. A mother blessing ceremony is meant to bring community together in support of the mother. The ceremony honors the mother and her transition. Unlike a traditional baby shower, a mother blessing is all about nurturing the mother to be and celebrating motherhood. A sacred mother blessing is created to empower and celebrate a woman’s rite of passage as she crosses the threshold from maiden to mother.
Each individual mother blessing ceremony is unique. It is designed to best fit the mother to be. It involves the gathering of the mother-to-be's trusted friends and family. It can be a very powerful, uplifting, affirming, empowering ceremony for the mother to be. The mother blessing will bring together support and connection from a woman’s most inner circle, gathering her tribe to remind her to draw from the strength of her sisters that have gone before her. She will be filled with wisdom, love and blessings as she embarks on her birth journey.
A mother blessing ceremony typically last 2-3 hours or longer. Usually a pot-luck style feast will take place after the sharing and stories. The mother to be will be adorned with massage, rose petal foot-bath, belly painting and flowers. She is renewed with confidence and empowered through a ceremony. This brings into consciousness the courage, strength and innate wisdom that she holds to birth her child. It is best to start preparing a mother blessing during the second trimester that will take place during the 8th or 9th month of pregnancy.
Together we can create a special sacred ceremony just for you and your transition to motherhood. We will create a sacred space for you and create a healing and loving tone.
